You can still have an active sex life when you have diabetes, but you should keep an eye on your blood glucose levels. It is possible to have a Hypo caused by sex, but making sure your partner is aware of what to expect and having something to treat.
If you want to start a family, it is important that you talk to your doctor/diabetes nurse before you start trying. There are several factors to consider before getting pregnant if you have diabetes:
- Keeping your blood glucose levels under control will give you a better chance of having a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby
- You MUST tell your doctor that you want to start a family before you start trying to conceive
- You should have regular contact with your diabetes care team during pregnancy so they can help you to monitor your blood glucose levels and check the baby's development.
